The "Necromancer" series—which reissues rare titles from niche, collector-run, handmade labels using the original master recordings—now features releases from "Headless Hawk," one of the premier collector labels in the jazz genre. These rare titles are being re-released at an accessible price point, complete with new reissue branding and updated back-cover artwork.
This live recording features Return to Forever, with Jean-Luc Ponty—a renowned figure in the fusion and progressive music scenes—on violin. This release features performances from two 2011 jazz festivals: the North Sea Jazz Festival (captured via soundboard) and the Landes Jazz Festival (captured via audience recording). Both recordings offer exceptional sound quality—the audience recording is every bit as impressive as the soundboard source. In the original "Headless Hawk" edition, the first disc consisted of the soundboard recording, while the second disc served to supplement it with additional tracks. For this reissue, the set has been expanded into a three-disc collection, now including the first half of the Landes Jazz Festival performance that was omitted from the original release. True to the spirit of this budget-friendly reissue series, the collection has been significantly expanded while remaining available at an accessible price point.
