For some reason, the 1982 Osaka three-day run hadn't circulated widely—except among a select group of collectors—until recently, making this a welcome release for enthusiasts. The sound quality is excellent for an audience recording, with crowd noise that actually enhances the sense of being there. The content is virtually complete; it is a definite must-listen for readers who attended these shows some 20 years ago, and it offers plenty of enjoyment for those who didn't.

On this particular day, they performed a rather rare, extended set that included a guitar crash!
Let’s take a look at each of the performances. I’m happy to report that the sound quality for this final Osaka show is excellent once again. The band always delivers a solid performance, but perhaps because it’s the last night—or because they have a day off tomorrow—there’s a different kind of intensity in the air. Maybe only a die-hard fan would pick up on the nuance in the feedback Ritchie produces during the intro to "All Night Long" (Disc 1, Track 8). "Child In Time" (Disc 1, Track 9) is another lengthy rendition. The intro to the opening track of Disc 2 really builds the suspense, too. At the start of Disc 2, Track 2, Ritchie plucks a single phrase of a blues riff and then abruptly stops—I wonder why? Before the final track of Disc 1 (Track 6), Ritchie plays something, but I still can't recall exactly what it was. I was a bit let down that the encore setlist was identical to the second night's right up until Track 9 of Disc 2, but—well, that’s Ritchie for you—he wrapped things up in style with a proper guitar smash!
