This is a live recording of the Pat Metheny Trio from 2005. Earlier that year, Metheny had been touring with his own group in support of the album *The Way Up*, with the setlist typically featuring an extended *The Way Up* suite in the first half. This particular performance, however, was a trio show—with saxophonist David Sanchez joining as a guest midway through to form a quartet—making it a rather rare type of performance. The transition between the discs is well-balanced, with the second disc capturing the quartet portion, beginning with Metheny’s introduction of David Sanchez. The recording is derived from an audience master that has been remastered, resulting in a clear, high-quality sound—as if a couple of veils have been lifted away.
