The "Necromancer" series—which reissues rare titles from niche, collector-run labels using official master recordings—now welcomes "Headless Hawk," a premier label for jazz collectors. These rare titles are being brought back to the market at an accessible price point, featuring new reissue emblems and redesigned back covers. A stellar lineup gathered for a concert celebrating Herbie Hancock’s 70th birthday—or, more precisely, a concert marking the milestone of his 70th year. The first set (on Disc 1) features a "jazz" ensemble performing a repertoire of jazz standards; it brings together several alumni of the Miles Davis circle, including longtime associates Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette. The second set (on Disc 2) shifts toward rock and pop, featuring artists like Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. This portion of the show blends electric jazz with vocal-oriented tracks—and even includes a brief, spontaneous rendition of Bob Marley’s "Exodus." Vinnie Colaiuta, known for his work with Frank Zappa and Sting, handles the drumming for this set. The recording is an audience-captured source of good quality.
