This is a collector's CD featuring a soundboard (SB) recording of the concert held at Nagoya Public Hall on September 30, 1977, during Eric Clapton's third tour of Japan (the "Slowhand" tour). Recordings from the 1977 Japan tour are extremely rare, with most existing ones being audience recordings; this particular source appears to be a direct soundboard feed (likely recorded by someone associated with the production). While the performance itself is captured with clear line-level quality, the audience cheers are recorded at an extremely low volume. Nevertheless, the performance captures the quintessential "Slowhand" Clapton, allowing the listener to fully enjoy his high-energy guitar work. The tracks are presented without edits between songs—capturing details like the sound of fingers sliding on strings—so the intensity of the live show comes through despite the quiet audience, drawing the listener right in. The guitar solos on "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Badge" are magnificent and full of power. Thanks to remastering, the rhythm section is also well-balanced in the mix.
