This release captures one of the joint concerts frequently held by Santana and Wayne Shorter during this period. It features a remastered recording taken from the soundboard master of their live performance at the legendary Fillmore. While the lineup was essentially the Santana band with Shorter joining in, bassist Alphonso Johnson was a former bandmate of Shorter's from Weather Report, and drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler—though not a contemporary of Shorter's in that specific group—was also an alumnus of the Miles Davis school. Eschewing staples like "Black Magic Woman" and "Parisienne Walkways," the setlist leans heavily into a spiritual fusion sound.
