Fuji Rock Festival 2006
Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa, Niigata, Japan – July 29, 2006

This is a high-quality pro-shot video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers—who headlined the second day of the landmark 10th anniversary Fuji Rock Festival—featuring an upgrade from the original 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 widescreen. Both picture and sound quality are vastly superior to previous versions. Notably, this visit was realized through the passionate efforts of the president of SMASH (the concert promoter), who was eager to bring them back for the 10th anniversary. With the band members having maintained a close relationship with Japan since their first visit in 1990, there was no way they wouldn't give an impassioned performance! Amidst the roaring cheers of a crowd of approximately 40,000, John, Flea, and Chad took the stage and kicked things off with a jam session.
Starting with "Can’t Stop," the set includes John passionately singing the Bee Gees classic "How Deep Is Your Love" and Flea breaking into the English children's song "If You’re Happy and You Know It"—truly showcasing the immense versatility and showmanship of these four musicians. Naturally, the band's performance is tight and brimming with groove! Although edited out of the footage, Anthony was in high spirits throughout the show; during the MC, he joked, "I arrived in Japan three days ago, and on my first day in Tokyo, I hooked up with Hello Kitty—I think I got her pregnant! But she's on the pill, so I don't think there's anything to worry about." Enjoy this superb performance by the "Funky Monks," delivering non-stop groove from the final song, "By The Way," right through to the encore, "Give It Away"!
