A 2008 reissue of an out-of-print title originally released by the Yellow Cat label in 1999!
This release, which features performances from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in March 1999 and a memorial concert for Linda held the following month, was well-received at the time as the latest available material from Paul McCartney. This release is a must-have—not only because it captures a performance from around a year after Linda’s passing, but also because it bears the stamp of the renowned label, Yellow Cat!!! The collection begins with a performance from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony held in New York on March 15, 1999. Although "What’d I Say" was also performed—and the entire event was broadcast on television—it is omitted here, likely because Paul’s contribution to that track was minimal. This marked Paul’s first public appearance following Linda’s death, with his role limited to vocals. He was supported by an all-star lineup including Eric Clapton, Robbie Robertson, Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel. During "Blue Suede Shoes"—a tribute to Carl Perkins, who, like Linda, passed away in 1998—Paul introduces the song by noting, "We’re doing Carl’s version, not Elvis’s." The performance is quite substantial, featuring a first guitar solo by Robbie Robertson and a second by Eric Clapton. On "Let It Be," Billy Joel sings the first verse, with Paul taking over lead vocals from the chorus onward. While Robbie Robertson is certainly not to blame, his playing here is rather precarious. After the song’s initial conclusion, there is an additional segment consisting of a guitar solo, a chorus, and an ending. Also included is footage from "A Concert for Linda," a memorial concert held on April 10, 1999, at the Royal Albert Hall in London—an event organized at the initiative of Chrissie Hynde, who was close to Linda both personally and professionally. This collection contains all the songs broadcast on television and radio at the time. While Paul only participates in "Lonesome Town" and "All My Loving," other highlights include a brilliant guitar performance by former Smiths member Johnny Marr during Marianne Faithfull’s set, as well as Elvis Costello’s moving renditions of "That Day Is Done" and "Warm and Beautiful." When Paul finally takes the stage for "Lonesome Town" and "All My Loving," he handles lead vocals on both. Although he sounds somewhat tentative in his stage banter—perhaps reflecting the fact that this was a genuine return to live performance, distinct from his appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony—the version of "Lonesome Town" is quite impressive, bolstered by Costello’s perfectly executed harmonies. Given that many of the songs he performed were original compositions dedicated to Linda, the choice of this particular track for the set is truly poignant. Although "Let It Be" was performed live after "All My Loving," it was not included here as it was never broadcast. The bonus material consists of a recording from the BBC radio program "Let It Rock," hosted by Joe Brown, which aired ahead of the release of the album *Run Devil Run*. Following its "official" broadcast on July 5, 1999, the recording spread rapidly after a North American radio station streamed it online without authorization from MPL—an incident that caused quite a stir at the time. Much like the *Beatles: Complete 2CD Rooftop Concert* release from the Yellow Dog label, this reissue goes beyond a simple reprint; the jacket uses higher-quality paper than the original. Furthermore, to ensure that the value of the copies held by fans who purchased the original release remains intact, the year credited on the disc label has been updated to "2008."
