This release features a soundboard recording of the final show of Eric Clapton's first Japan tour—held at the Nippon Budokan on November 2, 1974. Compared to the earlier Osaka performance (which famously began with a loud, boisterous laugh), Eric’s energy here is noticeably high; he kicks off the show by repeatedly shouting "Chaplin" during his opening remarks. While the exact context of his banter is unclear—it is hard to tell if he is intoxicated or simply in a wild mood—the performance is spirited. The setlist differs slightly from the Osaka show, featuring tracks not played there, such as "Key to the Highway" and "Willie and the Hand Jive / Get Ready." While the concert generally proceeds with up-tempo arrangements, the latter half features "Presence of the Lord," where listeners can fully enjoy the classic, bluesy "Slowhand" style and witness some truly magnificent guitar work. The audio quality is excellent (soundboard source), making this a rare and valuable recording from the 1974 tour. There are a few momentary dropouts caused by the master tape, but they are fleeting and do not detract from the listening experience. This release allows you to enjoy the Tokyo show of his first Japan tour in stable, high-quality soundboard audio.
