This release captures a tribute concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth, featuring Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves. With Reeves appearing as a guest alongside the Branford Marsalis Quartet—a lineup that also recorded an album for the centenary project—the band delivers superb performances. The setlist includes tracks from that album as well as a powerful trio of Coltrane classics: "Impressions" (which opens the show), "Afro Blue," and "My Favorite Things." The rendition of "Afro Blue" is particularly breathtaking; Reeves's spiritual vocal style fits the piece perfectly, while Justin Faulkner’s intricate, high-energy drumming seems to channel the spirit of Elvin Jones. The audio is derived from a decent-quality audience recording that has been remastered to ensure a highly listenable sound.
