Johnny Thunders—an eternal, charismatic "junkie" icon whose name is etched into the history of punk, and indeed, rock music. The lineup features Arthur "Killer" Kane, the singular bassist and former member of the New York Dolls (alongside Thunders); Jerry Nolan, a close ally, authentic tough-guy, and left-handed drummer who played with Thunders in the Heartbreakers; and Steve Dior, known as the frontman for The Idols and The London Cowboys. Now, an incredibly rare recording has been unearthed from this "phantom" punk band—a legendary group known only to the true cognoscenti: Johnny Thunders & The Delinquents. With no studio recordings ever made, the band achieved legendary status solely through a handful of live performances. This release features a monaural audience recording of the 1978 New Year's concert at Max's Kansas City—a punk mecca that stands alongside CBGB. While the source material suffered from the muffled quality typical of such recordings, the audio has been remastered to enhance clarity and definition, all while preserving the authentic, immersive atmosphere unique to mono tapes. The setlist is superb, featuring the Idols' repertoire, a cover of the doo-wop group The Dovells' "Can’t Sit Down," Jerry Nolan's solo track "Take A Chance," the Dolls' "Chatterbox," and a host of Johnny's own songs.
