This recording is from the third day of guitar hero Jeff Beck’s Japan tour on April 8, 2009—a performance at Archaique Hall in Hyogo. With a significantly changed lineup from last year, the band replaced their longtime bassist Tal with the talented female bassist Rhonda Smith, who had previously served as a backing musician for Prince, and—surprisingly—featured Michael Walden on drums—an absolutely incredible lineup. Since this concert fell right in the middle of the Japan tour, the performance was exceptionally cohesive. Perhaps satisfied with the result, Jeff performed the classic “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”—which hadn’t been played at the previous night’s Osaka show—during the second encore. He also played more songs than the previous night and granted two encores, delivering the best performance of the entire Japan tour. Although the sound quality is an audience recording, it remains stable throughout, with no muffled sounds—it’s a clear recording. It even includes the announcements made before the show began and after the recording ended, making this an absolutely irresistible release for fans, don’t you think?
