Progressive rock giants Yes returned to Japan for the first time in two years! This release features a complete recording of the November 14th Osaka concert from their 2016 Japan tour—where they performed selections from the masterpieces *Tales from Topographic Oceans*, *Yessongs*, and *Drama*—captured in superb, ultra-high audio quality that delivers immense power and a vivid sense of being there! This release perfectly recreates a blissful live performance with superb sound quality—featuring rich, realistic vocals and instrumentation, a flawless balance between the band members, and exceptional stereo imaging in the 2-mix. You can truly feel the immersive atmosphere and the sense of unity shared by the entire venue. Naturally, it has undergone the meticulous mastering characteristic of the Sylph label; it is a truly excellent release that is guaranteed to get you fired up!
For this tour, multi-instrumentalist Billy Sherwood stepped in for the late bassist Chris Squire (who passed away last year), captivating fans with bass playing and backing vocals that sound just like Squire's. Additionally, Jay Schellen handled drum duties for the majority of the show, filling in for Alan White (who was recovering from illness) and delivering a rock-solid, tight performance.
The concert kicks off with a trio of songs from the album *Drama*—the record that marked Geoff Downes's entry into the band—followed by four tracks from *Yessongs* to close out the first set. The second set features the tour's main highlight: the first-ever Japanese performances of "The Revealing Science of God" and "Ritual" from the epic album *Tales from Topographic Oceans*. The band's five virtuosos brilliantly capture the work's intricate, ethereal, and pastoral charm—it is nothing short of a masterpiece. Also making their Japanese live debut are "White Car" and "Leaves of Green" (a section of "The Ancient"), the latter featuring Steve Howe's beautiful acoustic guitar work—tracks you simply cannot miss! Alan joins the band from "Ritual" onwards, showcasing his energetic drumming.
You are sure to be moved by the entire performance—from Jon Davison's delicate yet resonant vocals and "Guitar Wizard" Steve Howe's transcendent playing to the incredible chemistry among the band members, including the new additions. This electrifying, two-hour-and-twenty-five-minute live performance is a must-listen for fans from start to finish! With superb sound quality that captures even the finest details, this historic night comes vividly back to life.
Presented by the Sylph label with stunning cover art and exceptional sound, this is the definitive release for reliving the Osaka concert—an essential memorial item!
