This is a live recording of the quintet led by the Marsalis brothers—who burst onto the scene in the 1980s to the acclaim of jazz fans everywhere. It is an audience recording from the archive of "TapeTyrant," a taper whose work has recently garnered high praise, placing him in the same league as the legendary Mike Millard. Unfortunately, the raw audio was not perfect; the low-end frequencies were extremely weak, so the high and low ranges were balanced during remastering. While this upgrade brought the quality up to an "Excellent" rating, some of the hall's characteristic reverberation remains. Nevertheless, fans accustomed to audience recordings should have no trouble enjoying this performance. Above all, it is a precious recording that captures the Marsalis brothers at the peak of their powers.
