Steve Hackett, the legendary guitarist who powered the golden era of Genesis, returned to Japan for the first time in three years to tour in support of his latest solo album, *Wolflight*. This release features a complete recording of the May 23, 2016, Osaka concert, captured in superb, ultra-high audio quality that delivers immense power and a vivid sense of being there. This release perfectly recreates a blissful live performance with superb sound quality—featuring rich, realistic vocals and instrumentation, a flawless balance between band members, and exceptional stereo imaging in the 2-track mix. It also captures the irresistible atmosphere and sense of unity that filled the venue. For this tour, the band welcomed former Kajagoogoo member Nick Beggs on bass and presented a lavish two-part show: the first half served as a retrospective of his solo career (including tracks from his latest album), while the second half was dedicated entirely to Genesis classics. The first part opened with an impressive five songs from the new album *Wolflight*! In addition to signature tracks like "Spectral Mornings" and "Icarus Ascending," the first set concluded with a powerful three-song run from the masterpiece *Voyage of the Acolyte*—"Ace of Wands," "A Tower Struck Down," and "Shadow of the Hierophant"—offering a chance to thoroughly enjoy his spectacular guitar work.
The second part featured the familiar Nad Sylvan on vocals and a parade of Genesis hits!
While the setlist included some deeper cuts, the selection differed significantly from the 2013 tour—a real treat for fans. Beyond Hackett’s outstanding guitar work, the diverse and technically demanding songs make for a thoroughly rewarding listening experience from start to finish. We can confidently say that this superb performance, spanning a full two and a half hours, is a must-hear for fans!
