This recording captures a live performance from May 3, 1975, in Boston, Massachusetts, during the US tour following the release of the all-instrumental album *Blow By Blow*. 1975 was a year marked by a series of mishaps for the artist—most notably during the legendary "World Rock Festival" in Japan, where he performed in terrible health; at the Sapporo show, he arrived at the venue after the concert had already begun due to a flight delay (or similar issue) and had to go straight into the performance without a soundcheck. The Boston show took place during the US leg of the tour, which also included dates across the mainland and Hawaii before he was scheduled to head to Japan. Unlike the troubled Japanese dates, he was in peak physical condition here, and with *Blow By Blow* selling well, he delivered an exciting, powerful performance; the playing on "Freeway Jam" in the first half is truly masterful. During "Cause We've Ended As Lovers"—a track from the new album—you can practically feel the audience's collective sigh of awe and their excitement. This is arguably one of the finest items among early-era recordings. Regarding sound quality: although it is an audience recording, the audio is so sharp and clear—free of muddiness—that if you focus solely on the music, you might easily mistake it for a soundboard recording. It is a superb capture.
