This recording captures the first night of the "Wayne Shorter Legacy Celebration" held in 2019. Please note that although the event bears Wayne Shorter's name, he himself is not present. The core of the ensemble consists of Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade—musicians who were active alongside Shorter—joined by Terrace Martin, known for his production work with new-generation jazz artists such as Robert Glasper and Kendrick Lamar. Leading the performance on this opening night is Herbie Hancock, a long-time musical partner and close friend of Shorter. The setlist is composed of compositions by Wayne Shorter and tracks from albums on which he collaborated. While other nights of the event featured different saxophonists stepping in for Shorter, this particular evening was led by keyboardist Herbie Hancock. Although this is an audience recording, it is of high quality.
