The "Necromancer" series—which reissues rare titles from "by-collectors, for-collectors" handmade labels using the original, officially acquired master recordings—now features releases from "Headless Hawk," one of the premier collector labels in the jazz world. These rare titles are being re-released at an accessible price point, complete with new reissue branding and updated back-cover artwork.
This live recording captures the material from Herbie Hancock’s *Head Hunters*—a monumental, shining landmark in the history of jazz-funk and fusion. The performance took place shortly after the album’s release, featuring nearly the same lineup. While Mike Clark has replaced Harvey Mason on drums, he would go on to become a key figure as the group continued to perform under the name "The Headhunters." On a side note, regarding the coolest band introductions during a live set: the top spot has to go to King Curtis of the King Pins on *Memphis Soul Stew*. In second place is Herbie Hancock of V.S.O.P., featured on "Hang Up Your Hang Ups." Despite being a keyboard player, Hancock has a great voice; here, too, he delivers a cool introduction set against the band’s groove.
