After concluding the "Second Coming Tour" with a show in Austin on November 6, 2015, D'Angelo performed a limited run of concerts in Australia and Japan in 2016. This release captures the March 21, 2016, performance at the Sydney Opera House via a superb audience recording that has been remastered to eliminate noise between tracks. The setlist is strikingly different from that of the "Second Coming Tour," offering a genuine surprise. Many songs feature unique arrangements; the opening track, "Devil's Pie," is enough to make you swoon. A major highlight is the cover of Funkadelic's "Red Hot Mama." The performance of Prince's "She's Always In My Hair" is also full of character. The show doesn't simply end with "Untitled"; it moves into the cool guitar-cutting groove of "Left & Right," the intense funk of "Chicken Grease," and a sequence featuring Quincy Jones-esque "Razzmatazz" style guitar work and various traditional musical phrases. It evokes the closing moments of Prince's "Sign o' the Times" tour (specifically the "Beautiful Night" finale)—or perhaps even surpasses it. This could well be considered a pinnacle of D'Angelo's live performances. It is a delight to listen to this while imagining what his Japan tour setlist might have been like.
