This release captures the afternoon show from November 16, 1980—Black Sabbath's first-ever tour of Japan. Following the dismissal of original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, the band had recruited Ronnie James Dio—who was enjoying a massive global breakthrough at the time—and released two studio albums within just two years before finally realizing their long-awaited Japanese tour. With Ronnie already popular in Japan, the performance kicked off amidst thunderous cheers from the audience. The band was perfectly in sync, delivering a magnificent show; Ronnie’s powerful shouts—evocative of his Rainbow era—and Tony Iommi’s commanding guitar work left the crowd awestruck. The excitement reached a fever pitch, capturing a band at the peak of its powers. This item features the first of two shows held on November 16—the only day of the tour to feature a double-header performance. Despite the early 2:00 PM start time, the excitement generated at the venue was immense—a concert that truly cemented Black Sabbath's popularity in Japan. The release includes nine bonus tracks from the November 18th show, the only performance from the 1980 Japan tour preserved via a soundboard/line recording. Although the audio is an audience recording, it utilizes a high-quality source; the balance between the performance and the crowd noise is excellent, delivering a realistic, powerful, and clear sound that offers a truly immersive listening experience.
