This collection features live performances by Weather Report from 1973, including shows in Kansas City (May) and New York City (July). Both recordings have been remastered from high-quality audience master tapes. The Kansas City recording offers a more expansive sound, while the New York recording features a solid, focused center with a punchy, prominent bass line. Both performances are exceptional, featuring a great deal of improvisation, and are well worth a listen. Although these two shows took place only two months apart, the drummer changed from Eric Gravatt to Greg Errico during that interval—a detail well worth noting as you compare the two.
The same label has been gradually expanding its collection of Weather Report live archival releases; each one offers plenty of highlights, so be sure to check those out as well.
