The Ramones—legendary figures of NY punk who carved their names into rock history. This recording captures a rare live performance at CBGB—their home turf and an essential venue in the story of punk rock—featuring original drummer Tommy Ramone in one of his final appearances on stage. Although it is an audience recording from the era, the sound quality is superb—rivaling official releases—with an outstanding, punchy mix that highlights both the low and high ends.
The music combines the catchy, familiar melodies of 60s pop (a style Joey loved, exemplified by Phil Spector) with a furious, full-throttle instrumental attack. This is the ultimate, wildest recording from a band whose unique charisma spawned an entire genre: "Ramones-style punk." 1978 marked the absolute peak of the Ramones' career.
The opening MC features Dead Boys members Cheetah Chrome and Jimmy Zero. The setlist differs from that of the famous *It's Alive* album and other previously circulating NYC recordings. This album marks the final time Tommy’s drumming can be heard on "I Just Wanna Have Something To Do"—a track later included on his fourth album. The mistake during "Surfin' Bird" is also a treat for fans.
