This live recording captures the first incarnation of the Jeff Beck Group—featuring Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood—performing at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit on November 3, 1968. Although Stewart and Wood were relatively unknown artists at the time, their performances are truly exceptional, showcasing the immense talent that justified their collaboration with Jeff Beck. Coming right after the release of their debut album *Truth*, Beck’s playing is ferocious and inspired, as if he were possessed by the music. At just 24 years old, Beck delivers a high-octane, full-throttle guitar performance that is nothing short of astonishing. Furthermore, the sound quality here is remarkable; despite being an audience recording, it captures everything—even the noise from the guitar amps—with such clarity that one might momentarily mistake it for a soundboard recording. While there is some slight instability typical of a 42-year-old source, the audio remains clear throughout, allowing listeners to fully enjoy Beck’s wild, brilliant playing. Bootlegs of the first Jeff Beck Group lineup have appeared on the market before, but often suffered from lackluster sound quality; this release, however, appears to have been remastered, doing justice to these historic performances. It serves as a valuable record of Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood—who were dismissed after this tour—and is an essential item for any Jeff Beck collector.
