The "Black Lodge" series—a new DVD line—joins the "Necromancer" series, which reissues rare titles from handmade, collector-for-collector labels (previously available only in very limited circulation) using the original, officially acquired master recordings. These rare titles are now being re-released as part of a reissue series at more accessible price points.

Although the release bears the name "Jaco Pastorius," it is not necessarily one I would recommend specifically to Jaco fans; in fact, it feels more like a showcase for musicians like Hiram Bullock. That said, a quick look at the details reveals the main draw: an all-star lineup gathered on one stage. The footage is an audience-shot recording from the left side of the stage, and the sound quality is good. Peter Erskine—who played alongside Jaco during his Weather Report era—is on drums.
