This live recording features a jazz trio led by John Abercrombie—a group that has been steadily gaining traction among collectors. It is sourced from a high-quality soundboard recording. While the rhythm section of Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette famously laid down rock-inflected beats in Miles Davis’s band during the late 1960s, their playing here is distinctly European—or, perhaps more accurately, quintessentially "ECM." DeJohnette plays piano as well as drums; indeed, he is a highly accomplished pianist. His lyrical, melodic lines—reminiscent at times of Keith Jarrett—are a must-hear for any ECM fan.
