This release features a live performance by Deep Purple at the Deutschlandhalle in West Berlin, Germany, on May 21, 1971, during their European tour. The tour, which served to promote their early classic album *In Rock* (released in June 1970), included a significant number of shows across Germany. The performance captured here reflects a high level of motivation among the band members—bolstered, no doubt, by the strong sales of *In Rock*. Far from the more systematized, formulaic approach that would emerge from 1972 onwards, this set is packed with spontaneous, improvised playing, showcasing a level of freedom unique to this specific era. You can truly feel the raw momentum of the band at its peak, making for an exceptional live experience. Ritchie’s ferocious guitar work is nothing short of breathtaking. As a bonus, the release includes two tracks from a 1970 German performance. Although the audio is an audience recording, it possesses such a vivid, direct, and immersive quality that it feels like a genuine "discovery." It is remarkably stable and high-fidelity, entirely free from the intrusive audience noise often found in older recordings.
