This release features a live performance by Chick Corea & Friends, remastered from a broadcast that aired in 2021. While there is some slight hiss, it is a welcome soundboard recording. Chick acts as host, introducing his various guest musicians—his "friends"—for each track, and the lineup is truly stellar. It includes Michael Brecker—a saxophonist whose name appeared on the credits of almost every soul or funk album of that era—as well as Gary Burton, a close ally who frequently performed in duo settings with Chick. Also featured is Steve Swallow, a foundational figure of the ECM label. Mike Garson, perhaps a surprising addition, is well-known to rock fans for his work in David Bowie’s band, but he is, in fact, a jazz pianist with deep roots in the genre and a profound admiration for Chick Corea. Providing beautiful vocals is Chick Corea’s wife, Gayle Moran. Chick Corea sadly passed away in 2021; let us cherish this precious recording as we remember him.
