The "Necromancer" series—which reissues rare titles from handmade, collector-focused labels (originally circulated only within very limited circles) using official master recordings—now welcomes "Headless Hawk," one of the premier labels for jazz collectors. These rare titles are being reintroduced at an accessible price point, featuring new reissue emblems and redesigned back covers.
This release showcases a duo performance by Ralph Towner—a guitarist synonymous with the ECM label—and Paolo Fresu. Although captured via an audience recording, the audience listens with such rapt, quiet attention that the sound quality rivals that of a soundboard recording. The duo’s style leverages the silence, weaving intricate musical phrases into the stillness. Their take on Miles Davis’s "Blue in Green" is remarkably cool and hard-boiled. Rather than focusing on groove or swing, this is music to be savored—slowly, deeply, and with full immersion.
