This is a live recording of "The Million Dollar Guitarist" Johnny Winter, captured at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1987. It serves as a highly valuable document, particularly given that by the early 1990s, the worsening of a chronic condition made it nearly impossible for him to even lift a guitar, let alone perform live. With official live releases limited to recordings from 1976 and 1997, this tape offers a rare look at his live performances from the 1980s—a period leading up to his hiatus in the 90s. This show took place during a highly acclaimed era when he had signed with the blues-specialist label Alligator Records and was releasing more mature blues albums; consequently, the listener is treated to some of his finest guitar work. The set is heavily blues-oriented, allowing one to fully appreciate the blues—the true foundation of Johnny Winter's music—as it existed in the late 80s. It also includes classic rock 'n' roll numbers like "Serious As A Heart Attack" and "Johnny B. Goode," making for an entertaining live listening experience. Although it is an audience recording, the sound quality is superb—so good that one might briefly mistake it for a soundboard (SB) recording—allowing you to enjoy the sharp, crisp tone of Johnny Winter's guitar.
