Although management was reportedly unenthusiastic about an all-Black lineup, Jimi Hendrix himself stated that Band of Gypsys allowed him to play the music he truly wanted to create; the performances here reflect that sentiment, showcasing the band playing with wonderful freedom and confidence. While "Red House" is a staple of the Band of Gypsys repertoire, the rendition of "Machine Gun" included here is truly overwhelming, featuring explosive, relentless guitar work.
