This recording captures Jeff Beck's fourth tour of Japan, specifically the show held on December 14th at the Sapporo Green Dome. Having broken new ground in rock music with the all-instrumental album *Blow by Blow* (1975) and the then-new *There and Back*, Beck delivers a performance on this tour that is astonishingly hard-hitting and dynamic. While rumors suggest this intensity stemmed from his decision to recruit mostly young musicians for his backing band, listening to the recording reveals a group firing on all cylinders; the musicians seem to inspire one another, naturally raising the energy level and driving the performance to dynamic heights. Bootleg recordings of Japan tours usually originate from Tokyo or Osaka, making this recording from the regional city of Sapporo a rare find—and the sound quality is surprisingly excellent. Although it is an audience recording, the instrumental balance is superb, and the clarity is so high that one might momentarily mistake it for a soundboard recording. With a setlist weaving together old and new hits, this release allows you to enjoy Jeff Beck at his absolute coolest.
