Following his 2009 tour, this item features Jeff Beck’s 2010 Japan tour—specifically, the first Tokyo show on April 10 at JCB HALL. Jeff is riding high after the success of his joint concert with Eric, but the major change for this tour is that he has completely replaced his 2009 backing band. He is now joined by drummer Narada Michael Walden, who contributed to the classic album *Wired*; bassist Rhonda Smith—a fellow female bassist who has performed with Prince and others, replacing last year’s much-talked-about bassist Tal Wilkenfeld; and keyboardist Jason Rebello, famous for his work supporting Sting and Chaka Khan. His new album, “Emotion & Commotion,” was recorded with the 2009 lineup, so fans can enjoy the changes in sound brought about by the new members. In addition, they performed five songs from the new album “Emotion & Commotion”—“Corpus Christi Carol,” “Hammerhead,” “Never Alone,” “Over The Rainbow,” and “Nessun Dorma”—in a setlist that blended old and new hits. Above all, with the addition of Narada Michael Walden—who produced the masterpiece “Wired”—the performance, despite featuring many laid-back, mellow numbers, is surprisingly stable and powerful. Since the April 10th concert took place midway through their Japan tour, the band’s energy and performance were at their peak, and Jeff himself delivered a performance with considerable intensity. Although the sound quality is an audience recording, the recording position was likely close to the stage—there’s no muffled sound, the balance is excellent, and with no extreme EQ processing, the audio is natural and very clear. The final song, the classic “Lovers in Sorrow,” is sure to bring tears to your eyes.
