This release pairs live performances from the US promotional tour for *461 Ocean Boulevard*—Eric Clapton's early masterpiece—specifically the shows at Nassau Coliseum (Uniondale, New York) on June 30, 1974, and in Denver, Colorado, on June 23, 1974. *461 Ocean Boulevard* remains a beloved classic among fans 36 years after its release; arriving four years after his debut solo album, it was a project into which Clapton poured immense passion, and he delivered spirited, superb performances during the accompanying promotional tour. Following this June tour, he would go on to perform in Japan for the first time in November, but the high-energy playing captured here during the preceding US tour is truly astounding. Featuring a mix of old and new hits—and even moments where guitar feedback erupts during solos—this is a realistic, authentic release of the kind only collectors can appreciate. While there are no major differences in the setlists between the June 30 and June 23 shows, the Denver performance on the 23rd included "Crossroads," a song not played on the 30th. Eric was 29 years old in 1974, and the sheer intensity and power radiating from his entire being seem to be qualities that could only emerge during that specific era. Both the June 30 and June 23 recordings are soundboard (SBD) sources; although there are occasional instances of the instability characteristic of recordings from that period, the performances remain consistently solid, allowing you to fully enjoy an energetic Eric at the top of his game.
