These are the titles of various famous pro-shot live footage from Wendy's debut concert at the legendary First Avenue, a benefit for Minnesota Dance Theatre on August 3, 1983. The former title is considered to have the best image quality. This live performance was later used on the album Purple Rain, hence the title, "Elements of Rain." This release features a remastered audio portion of the concert. Because the audio can only be extracted from the video, there is still some distortion, but noise reduction has been implemented to the greatest extent possible, resulting in arguably the best sound quality ever. However, to be honest, this alone wouldn't make it a groundbreaking release. In fact, the accompanying soundboard rehearsals are all making their first appearance. The October 13, 1982, funky jam centered around the Linn drum, yet incorporating princely guitar and keyboard elements, and the 1983 rehearsal for First Avenue are different recordings from the titles below. Prince/8-3-83 Rehearsal (2 CDR)

https://purpletown.buyshop.jp/items/6318259

This recording from The Makings Of Rain is from a similar period to the above-mentioned recording, but is completely different. It's a fantastic soundboard recording, and there's nothing to complain about. This is the best rehearsal, featuring a solid Little Corvette performance and, astonishingly, D.M.S.R., a flood of funk packed with various ideas that serve as the source of the incredible tension of the main album. You'll surely feel the energy of their heyday at every turn.

And actually, there's another benefit live performance included. This is the first-ever soundboard recording. It's from the Santa Monica performance on February 25, 1985, a different day from the 4DF Versity Blues (1 CDR) (the link below is for the set release that includes Versity Blues (1 CDR)).

https://purpletown.buyshop.jp/items/2898866

This recording of "The Makings of Rain" is from a different day than the one mentioned above, and it's a powerful and wonderful soundboard recording! It's not a compact, but rather a fast-paced live performance, with Eric's melancholic horns featured throughout, creating a more powerful, jazzy performance that's truly enjoyable. The usual songs also sound differently arranged. The rare "4 The Tears in Your Eyes" is also beautifully presented, with the most amazing playing and sound quality.

And then there's the incredibly cool jam from the spring of '85, where Prince gives Eric direction to shape a funky song. And there's the fact that Jill Jones actually sang a Purple Rain-esque track! This version of "Our Destiny" is far superior. Then there's the aggressive "Killing at the Soda Shop," followed by Jill's "Wednesday" (although with a different title) and Prince's version. Both are beautiful piano ballads, and it sounds like the two are playing in perfect harmony. Additionally, the album, titled "The Makings Of Rain," includes Purple Rain outtakes and music from the film, making it a truly complete release that lives up to its title.
This release also includes footage from The Makings Of Rain. The image quality is the highest available, and with a fantastic menu screen and well-designed jacket, it's sure to be even more satisfying than any of the '83 First Avenue-related footage I've had up until now.
