IT WAS PART OF \"FANFARE FOR EUROPE\", A WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION OF ENGLAND'S ENTRY INTO THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET BEGINNING ON JANUARY 8 OF 1973. THE SHOW WAS ORGANIZED BY PETE TOWNSHEND AND LORD HARLECH (FATHER OF CLAPTON'S GIRLFRIEND, ALICE ORMSBY-GORE) TO BRING HIM BACK INTO THE PUBLIC ARENA AS A WORKING MUSICIAN AND GIVE HIM INCENTIVE TO QUIT HIS DRUG HABIT.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn January 13, 1973, one of the most significant events in rock music history, \"The Famous Rainbow Concert,\" was recorded by Glyn Johns using Ronnie Lane's mobile studio. The concert was part of \"Fanfare for Europe,\" a week-long event celebrating Britain's entry into the European Community, which began on January 8, 1973.
